Welcome to our mixed Year 5 and 6 class, where curiosity, creativity, and collaboration thrive! This term, our learners are diving into a rich and varied curriculum designed to challenge and inspire. From exploring ancient civilizations in history to tackling complex problem-solving in maths, our pupils are developing both independence and teamwork skills.
In English, children have daily reading lessons, through which they will advance their fluency and expression when reading out loud, and develop secure comprehension of what they are reading. The children always love reading our action-packed novels and are engrossed in the high-quality literature explored in class. Our first novel is from the 1950s called ‘Tom’s Midnight Garden’, which enables pupils to let their imagination grow by exploring the magical garden that appears to a young boy stuck inside during a quarantine. Some other exciting novels we explore in Year 5 and 6 include: ‘The Nowhere Emporium’, ‘Percy Jackson’ and ‘Clockwork’. These brilliant novels offer us the opportunity to explore figurative language and symbolism, learn new vocabulary and use comparative adjective and adverbs to describe, helping us to become creative authors ourselves. Our writing sessions also include a focus on grammar, punctuation, and spelling to help pupils polish and perfect their everyday writing skills.
With a strong focus on personal growth, resilience, and respect, our classroom is a place where every child is encouraged to aim high, think deeply, and support one another. We’re proud of the progress our pupils make and the joy they bring to learning every day.

Reading Books
It would be great if you could read regularly with your child. We are still using home reading record books and would be grateful if you would regularly sign to show you have experienced your child reading at home. We are also monitoring reading through the Accelerated Reader Programme. If you have any comments or concerns regarding reading at home please write them in the back of the homework book.
